The first season of Arcane set an almost unreachable bar. Widely regarded as one of the best—if not the best—video game adaptations ever created, its masterful storytelling, nuanced character arcs, and rich world-building captivated both League of Legends fans and newcomers alike. With expectations sky-high, Arcane Season 2 had enormous shoes to fill. While the second season remains a fantastic series, it falls slightly short of its predecessor in some notable ways.
Season 2 picks up where its predecessor left off, diving headfirst into the escalating tensions between Piltover and Zaun. However, the pacing feels much more hurried this time around. The story attempts to cover an immense amount of ground in too little time, resulting in a narrative that occasionally feels rushed. Characters are introduced at a breakneck pace compared to the first season, leaving little room for the same level of development and emotional connection that made Season 1 so impactful.
Another notable shift is the heavy reliance on montages. While these sequences are visually stunning, they sometimes come at the cost of meaningful scene development, which dilutes the emotional weight of key moments. Additionally, Season 2 lacks the immersive world-building that made Piltover and Zaun feel so alive in the first season. The rich lore and attention to detail that once grounded the story take a backseat to the action-packed, fast-paced plot.
Despite its flaws, Arcane Season 2 has plenty to celebrate. The show’s art and animation, already a standout feature in Season 1, are even more breathtaking this time around. Riot Games and Fortiche Productions have clearly refined their craft, delivering visual sequences that are nothing short of spectacular.
The soundtrack also stands out, with a selection of songs that arguably surpass even the first season's stellar lineup. This, paired with a more nuanced integration of League of Legends lore, ensures that longtime fans of the game will likely enjoy Season 2 even more than the first.
While Arcane Season 2 stumbles in areas where its predecessor excelled, it remains a remarkable series. Its flaws—rushed pacing, an abundance of montages, and thinner world-building—are dwarfed by its strengths: stunning visuals, an incredible soundtrack, and moments that capture the emotional core of its characters.
For many fans, Season 2 may feel slightly overshadowed by the greatness of the first season, but that’s more a testament to the brilliance of Season 1 than a condemnation of Season 2. At its heart, Arcane remains a triumph of storytelling and animation, and its second chapter, while imperfect, is still a must-watch.

The crew at Video Game Tango—Andy, Nick, and Josh—are big fans of The Game Awards, but their enthusiasm primarily lies in the event's showcase of upcoming gaming titles and other video game-related media announcements. The excitement of surprise reveals and world premieres makes the show a highlight of the gaming calendar.
However, their love doesn’t extend to the awards portion of the show. They view the awards as somewhat arbitrary, with winners often reflecting popular trends or high sales rather than deeper merit. This leaves some awards feeling disconnected from what might truly deserve recognition.
In their latest episode, Andy, Nick, and Josh dive into the nominees for categories like Game of the Year, Best Multiplayer Game, Best Ongoing Game, Best Community Support, and more. While they may question the process, their analysis offers a fresh perspective on what makes each nomination worthy—or not—and sparks thoughtful discussion about what the awards could aspire to represent.
For the guys at Video Game Tango, The Game Awards remains a spectacle worth tuning into, even if its award decisions don’t always hit the mark.
